Psychodynamic Psychotherapist based in Godalming

I am an experienced BACP registered psychotherapist & counsellor practicing in and around Godalming & Guildford in Surrey. I offer sessions on a short, long-term and open-ended basis, both privately and for the NHS.

We all have periods of life that are distressing but occasionally these become too much for us to bear. Talking to friends and family can feel too close to home or perhaps there simply isn’t anyone to talk to. There may be fear of being judged, perceived as being weak or the problem is about the person most available to listen...

This is when seeing a psychotherapist can be so beneficial. I work non-judgementally with you so as to create a safe and confidential where we can explore whatever troubles you, be it a major life trauma such as bereavement or something that happened in childhood, a long-term problem such as addiction or an eating disorder, or something you can’t quite put a finger on - a nagging feeling that something just isn’t right.

Whatever it is, if it is affecting the quality of your life and undermining your hopes and aspirations then making time for yourself to try to understand and change these concerns, to, perhaps for the first time, take full responsibility for your life is one of the most important decisions you can make. Taking that first step to see a counsellor often takes great courage but if you are suffering then perhaps it's time to take that step and call or email me and between us we can organise a time and place to meet and begin the process -

I primarily use psychodynamic psychotherapy but I also have considerable training in other techniques, particularly CBT and Mindfulness, which I can draw upon. I have experience with:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Addiction
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Self Esteem
  • Confidence
  • Eating disorders
  • Loss, grieving & mourning
  • Obsessive-compulsive behaviour
  • Self-harm.
  • Shame
  • Stress

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a therapeutic process that can help you to understand and resolve your problems by increasing awareness of your inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present. Meeting weekly (occasionally more often) we look at what's happening in your life at the moment and the part you play in things going right or wrong for you. We’ll explore what has happened in the past and how the past can affect how you are feeling, thinking and behaving right now including in the consulting room.
This process can take time as often the issues that bring you to therapy have developed over a long period of your life but with space you can come to understanding, and further to changing, often complex and deep emotional and relational problems.

Mindfulness is a simple complimentary practice that helps you to find a perspective and a distance from thoughts, feelings and behaviours that, unchecked, may have caused you problems for many years. Combined with the above approach mindfulness can give you the tools to manage anxiety as well as helping to reduce the seemingly constant need for more in everything we do.

If you feel that you'd like to speak to me and are living in or near Surrey, especially if you wish to see a counsellor near Guildford, Farnham or Godalming then please do phone or email. We can then have an initial conversation and if agreed, we can arrange a time and day to meet.
